A walk on the wildside - Los Angeles Zoo

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Our trip to the

Los Angeles Zoo
I feel like I am always stuck in the house and I needed to get out for the day. Dunka (Jude) has yet to visit the Zoo, so it was a perfect opportunity to go! My girl friends Carly and Crystal, who have been super supportive and help me with Jude, had the day off and joined us.

As soon as we walked thru the gates I was on the hunt for a cute hat. Jude is not much of a fan of things on his head so he quickly pulled off this cute monkey hat.

(Tweeted Picture below)

I think he looks sooooo cute. It took us a bunch of takes to get this shot of him. Look at those chubby cheeks! I'm going to be sad when his baby fat slims out.

I opted for a fisherman style hat because I already bought him a ball cap from Disneyland.
(Tweeted Picture Below)Jude is very observant like his mommy. He wanted to see it all.

Trips like these are great. He gets to see new things and hear new soundsCarly (aka Carl lol) and Jude
Make sure you bring snacks! Everything at the zoo was so expensive and not baby/toddler friendly. Amen for the Goldfish snacks I packed for him.
I must say I have the best-est friends possible. These girls helped me alot when I needed a break carrying Jude. He is a heavy boy (going on 30 lbs). They have become very close to Jude over the last week or so. Love my girls!

Now to some of the animals. A lot of the exhibits were really sad. The areas the animals were held in, for the most part, seemed so small.
It was such a hot day out, most of the animals were napping.

The zoo was a lot bigger than we expected. There were nice big waterfalls that felt amazing.
It was like finding water in the desert.
Jude was loving it!

Deep in thought thinking of all the animals he saw today. My baby looks so grown already, I wish he would stay small forever. Hes been getting very talkative lately too. Being with him all the time is a blessing, I don't miss a thing.

I think the pictures of this Ape were really sad. He was in jail, it looked like.
You can hear the sparks of the fence that went all along the area he was held in.

He sat there, playing with his hands for a while. Children were yelling to get his attention and he didn't even look over to see what the commotion was all about. It hurts my heart.

Thank goodness for baby slings. Jude loves being in my arms. Hes a total mommas boy! The sling allows me to do everything and anything from cleaning the house to putting on my makeup.

I purchased two styles from ebay.
Being the girly girls that we are we were dying when we say the beautiful prints on animals like these Zebras.
The sleeping Lion...King of the jungle had one of the smallest areas to walk around in. I would not want to be the one responsible for cleaning up after him. Yikes!!
As soon as I saw the giraffe I immediately thought of "giraffe in quicksand" look it up on YouTube.

It makes me laugh every time I see it haha.
As we were trying to find our way out of the Zoo we ran into a large crowd hovered around a large rocky area. It was these dudes hanging out. Just watching them lounge made me want to go home and take a nap!
Last but never the least, the raging Tiger. I am trying to get the video to upload directly on here so you all can here his lour roar. He was pacing back and fourth. It sounded like he was complaining. I would too. Imagine being held in a small area for the rest of your life.
All in all we had a great time, we could have done without the large crowds and the infestation of crazy bees, but it was nice showing Jude something new.

Have you been to the zoo lately? Which zoo did you visit?

Jude's First Haircut

Friday, August 27, 2010

Jude's first REAL Haircut
Jude's hair was getting really long and crazy and it was time for a cut.
I guess he was in the right place at the right time. My friend Carly needed a trim while we
are out here in Palm Springs, so I decided it was time to trim his hair too.

I usually only cut his bangs but its so flippin hot out here, I knew he would appreciate it.
Thank goodness the Lord blessed me with such a good baby, he sat still thru the whole thing.
Like I said at the start of this post, it was only a trim. There was much more all over the floor and sink but I wanted to keep and nice thick lock for his scrapbook.
What is Jude's favorite snack? Gerber puffs. He loves the cheese flavor! He doesn't know how to share just yet so he tried to carry them all at once haha.
Time for bed! My son should be a model. I know a lot of parents think they have the cutest kid, but I know! lol. Look at those eyes, they remind me of his daddy.
I'm not skilled in the hair cutting department so I'm sure its a little uneven but I think it looks cute. It gives him a older look. Also I know I will be getting less "Is he a boy or a girl?" comments.
How was your child's first hair cut? If you have a child yourself, a brother or sister, or even a niece or nephew...how was it?

Dulce Candy's Birthday Dinner + Jude is a model!

Saturday, August 21, 2010

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DULCE
Oh my goodness its been so hot lately! I tried to get dressed earlier but I was melting.
If you think Jude has long hair you should look at his dad...with the exception that he spikes it to the sky. I know if it wasn't for ceramic flat irons my hair would be a wavy mess.

Last night we got invited to have dinner with Dulce and her friends at the Cheesecake Factory at the Americana. It was a beautiful night and the temp dropped before we arrived. We even had a table outside so we can enjoy the ambiance.

I like how hes looking at me like I'm crazy haha.
Okay, so maybe Jude isn't a model...yet!
Look at my honey walk out the front door in style and on his own!

Shirt: OshKosh B'gosh
Jeans: Arizona
Shoes: Black Vans - Slipons
Kris and I both had the best pizzas with the freshest ingredients. He had the 4 Seasons Pizza and I had the Roasted Veggie Pizza. So good, which reminds me...we have left overs!
When we got there, they already had a plate with assorted slices (small) of bread and banana for Jude. It was very sweet. Jude enjoyed himself, he agreed that the food was finger licking good. (picture below taken by Jesse)

Here's a picture of BIG FOOT and Dulce lol. Can I be any bigger in every way? I should know better than to wear platform heels when I go out with her. One of two things happened...
I look like a monster or she looks like my daughter!
Close up is much better lol.
I need to get Jude a ball cap. He looks so cute in this hat...I think it took me 5 tries before getting this shot because he hates wearing hats! I love him in the vintage looking newsboy hats from H&M for kids. Super cute!
Here is a snap shot of Jude and his daddy.
I love when my boys are together. Kris is really good with Jude, and I know Jude is happy with his Dad. Don't you love their tops? We even rolled up Jude's longsleves to match.

To end the night, we sang "Happy Birthday" with the cutest Hello Kitty cake.
I didn't get to taste it because I was so full I was scared it i took even one more sip of my Blueberry Mojito I was going to explode!
I think after dinner, everyone planned to go bowling but Jude's bedtime is at 10:00 and he was already turning into a pumpkin. I was really tired from the heat so we decided to call it a night.
Have you visited a Cheesecake factory? Did you like it? What did you order?

New Drugstore Foundation + Application

Friday, August 20, 2010

I went bargain hunting for a good drugstore foundation.
Super Stay 24hr Makeup Micro-Flex
by Maybelline NewYork
The lord knows I shouldn't be buying MAC foundation right now, so I saved about $20 and went with this affordable drugstore alternative.
I also wanted to try out one of my new Sigma Makeup Brushes and see if all the talk was true, and I was happy it was! I love this combo.
If I had to compare this foundation to anything by MAC it would have to be the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation with a few exceptions.

The formula is almost the same.
I think the Super Stay by Maybelline is great because you get just as much product for less money, and it lasts longer. This one is true to its bottle color also.
(I am NC30 by MAC - This is True Beige)
This brush, Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki - F80, is like no other brush I have ever tried. I always used a sponge, clean fingers, or a foundation brush. After trying out this beauty, which will run you a nice $16 on the Sigma website, its a small price to pay for a perfect application.
The bristles are softer than you could imagine. The thing I hated about the Duo Fiber brushes is that it does eventually give you the "airbrush" look...but with this one its almost at first stroke it gets the job done. I want to order one for each kind of foundation that I own.
(I'm a lazy brush cleaner)Unlike the traditional foundation brushes, this one leaves your face streak free!

I was so happy with this duo I had to share it with you all.
I hope this post helped those of you who were looking for a drugstore brand of foundation that gave you the department store coverage without kicking you in the purse.
What drugstore foundation do you love? Any dupes?
Let me know, I am always out on the hunt for great dupes.
