New Drugstore Foundation + Application

Friday, August 20, 2010

I went bargain hunting for a good drugstore foundation.
Super Stay 24hr Makeup Micro-Flex
by Maybelline NewYork
The lord knows I shouldn't be buying MAC foundation right now, so I saved about $20 and went with this affordable drugstore alternative.
I also wanted to try out one of my new Sigma Makeup Brushes and see if all the talk was true, and I was happy it was! I love this combo.
If I had to compare this foundation to anything by MAC it would have to be the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation with a few exceptions.

The formula is almost the same.
I think the Super Stay by Maybelline is great because you get just as much product for less money, and it lasts longer. This one is true to its bottle color also.
(I am NC30 by MAC - This is True Beige)
This brush, Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki - F80, is like no other brush I have ever tried. I always used a sponge, clean fingers, or a foundation brush. After trying out this beauty, which will run you a nice $16 on the Sigma website, its a small price to pay for a perfect application.
The bristles are softer than you could imagine. The thing I hated about the Duo Fiber brushes is that it does eventually give you the "airbrush" look...but with this one its almost at first stroke it gets the job done. I want to order one for each kind of foundation that I own.
(I'm a lazy brush cleaner)Unlike the traditional foundation brushes, this one leaves your face streak free!

I was so happy with this duo I had to share it with you all.
I hope this post helped those of you who were looking for a drugstore brand of foundation that gave you the department store coverage without kicking you in the purse.
What drugstore foundation do you love? Any dupes?
Let me know, I am always out on the hunt for great dupes.

Another alternative for this brush is the Sonia Kashuk flat-top brush. It is very similar to this Sigma brush and is very dense and compact. Sonia Kashuk brush is $14.99 at Target. Hope this helps!

One question, does the superstay really last very long, I have oily skin and have a hard time with my foundation lasting!

Thanks for sharing Sonia.

this brush is very similar to Coastal Scents synthetic large buffer brush...and it's AMAZING!!! I agree, the duo fibre eventually gets it but with this brush it's immediate!!! the best for application!!! i did a review on my blog...and i switched to Revlon ColorStay because my skin wouldn't stay clear with the StudioFixFluid.

Hey girl :) I was thinking about picking this foundation up at the drugstore the other day but I went with my usual Maybelline Instant Age Rewind liquid foundation. I'm only 18 so I don't have to worry about wrinkles but it works very good at covering my acne/acne scars without looking heavy or cakey. Recently they seem to have improved the formula by adding Goji Berry and Caffeine. I don't notice any difference in consistency but the texture is kinda thick and nice, not runny. It's def. not as thick as Revlon Colorstay (which I don't like because I find it too thick to look natural on me). If you're interested in purchasing another drugstore foundation in the future, I'd def. recommend it :)

that particular foundation also works well with a wet sponge if it feels to cakey for some people Rather than wipe it across your skin, you just dab and dab and dab.

Definitely try elf's studio powder brush. It gives the most flawless liquid application! I use Revlon colorstay foundation and stipple it on with this brush and voila! Perfect looking skin.

I use my MAC duo fibre brush for stipling my foundation on. Have you tried this? It's actually much better to be used for this technique than buffing with it and the results are a quite airbrushed finish. It can be a bit more time consuming, however.
